The newly-established administrative unit of research and archival studies was founded in 2000 under the authority of the Archives’ Central Administrative Board. Its designated mission is to edit and publish documents in accordance with prevalent scientific methodologies. The future plan forthis unit is to transform it into a documents research centre, following the example of other global archives that have annexed research centres. The National Archives’ affiliate Scientific Committee organizes the work of this unit, supervises its published scientific studies, and plans its research agenda. The staff consists of researchers specialized in history and archival sciences. Since its establishment, the unit has published numerous documents including:
